The Sun

The child isn't holding the reins. In the Waite-Smith Sun card, the child on the white horse sits bare, arms spread wide, with a low wall of sunflowers and a great sun behind. The red banner in the child's hand waves without concealment. The wall is low; the sky is wide. The sunflowers lift their heads toward the sun from beyond the wall. Not one of them hides. People read this card as pure luck. Half right. This image's real point isn't fortune — it's nothing hidden. The child is safe not because of luck, but because there's nothing left to cover up.

If it lands upright, this is a phase where visibility multiplies things. Publishing results, taking rightful credit, saying what you've wanted to say in the open — that's what moves things forward now. Visibility isn't showing off — it's publishing your coordinates, and people and offers gather around whoever's coordinates are known. An achievement nobody spoke of gets filed by the world's accounting as no achievement at all — that's not something to resent, it's something to correct. In this phase, modesty that's really concealment costs you. But if it lands reversed, the story changes — reversed is a clouded sun. Things are going well and you can't say so, or you get praised and talk yourself down anyway. The sun hasn't disappeared. A curtain has been drawn, and the curtain is in your hand.

Psychology has a name for this: impostor syndrome — refusing to credit your own achievement to your own skill, dreading the day it gets found out, and it hits conscientious people hardest. The opposite of impostor syndrome isn't arrogance. It's an honest ledger. What went well gets written in the went-well column. Traditional reading treats the Sun as the child's honesty: the child calls a good thing good and attaches no footnote to it. That's accuracy, not arrogance. An accurate self-assessment is not a crime.

Today, say one thing you accomplished out loud, in one sentence, with nothing subtracted. Don't attach the footnote "I got lucky." A sentence spoken aloud outlasts the one that stays in your head. Where are you living half-hidden lately? You're the first person who needs to credit your own achievement. Pulling back the curtain is today's job. Tomorrow, say that same sentence to someone else. The sun was never gone.
